Fun Facts About Rob
Go-to Comfort Food:
“I admit this is a preference I’ve never grown out of since University days: A Friday night kebab. Chilli sauce, mint yoghurt, doner and chicken, the works! Just writing this has made me hungry.”
Desired Superpower:
“The only right answer is to be able to fly, of course! Imagine the freedom and amazing perspective this would bring to life. Sure would beat the traffic as well.”
Most Adventurous Endeavor:
“On a personal level: Having 2 kids! You give up so much of your time and energy over a long period. But ultimately, the reward of raising 2 ‘reasonably’ mature young adults is worth it.
Professionally: Starting up a new business was definitely a (welcome) step outside my comfort zone!”
Favourite Book or Movie:
“This is such a difficult question as there are so many to choose from. But if it came to it:
Favourite book: Excession by Iain M. Banks
Favourite film: Arrival directed by Denis Villeneuve
Both are works of science fiction. The reason these resonate with me is because of the scale of potential they present and how we, as the human race, think about ourselves and communicate with one another. These stories always trigger my fascination with the ‘bigger picture’ of our universe.”
Skill He’d Love to Learn:
“If I had the free time, I would love to learn to play a musical instrument. I started briefly at school and never finished. Now, often when I see a video or performance of someone playing the guitar, drums, or piano, I just think, ‘I wish I could do that’.”
Favourite Way to Spend a Weekend:
“Right now, I’m doing a lot of landscaping work in my spare time. It’s really satisfying to put in the hard work and then sit down in the garden afterward (with a beer). Other times, a weekend away with friends is always a welcome excuse to go out for food and drinks in a different city.”
Dream Travel Destination:
“Probably Australia. I love the idea of trekking through the Outback and seeing the wilderness in real life. Not so keen on all the poisonous spiders and snakes though!”
Quirky Fact:
“If I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would be fascinated to meet a family ancestor from maybe the 17th or 18th century. I would love to know what drives them and what their life and experience were like compared to ours today.”
